My TV Addiction

I'm a TV addict. I LOVE TV. I think think that DVR is one of the greatest inventions in the history of...well, life. One of the key "must haves" when we select a cable provider is how many shows we can record at once. As frustrating as AT&T Uverse can be, it will let me record FOUR shows at once. How great is that?

This is where I will tell you that I am so obsessed with TV that it was a dream of mine to be a Nielsen family (I know you've heard of Nielsen ratings). Becoming a Nielsen home isn't something you sign up for. You are asked by Neilsen by chance only. So I guess it was pure luck in early 2012 I was asked to be a panelist. I was ecstatic!

Every August, I prepare my TV schedule. I need to know the return date and time that each of my returning shows. I also need to know when the new shows start. I spend a good 2 hours putting my spread sheet together. Yeah, you read that right, I have a spreadsheet.

I usually keep my spreadsheet to myself, but since I have this nifty blog, why not share it! Before, I share it, there are few things that you need to know about our TV habits.

1. We don't watch a lot of shows live. Only a few shows get watched "live" in my house. Mostly because we have a pre-schooler running around. Also because we do have to sleep and we can't watch every show, every night. So a lot of shows get watched the following nights and on the weekends.

2. We follow a strict three episode rule. If we try a new show (to us, not necessarily a new show for everyone) we will give it 3 episodes. If we aren't enjoying it, then it's done. No need to waste time on a show if we don't like it.

3. At the end of each year, I do cut shows off our list. Sometimes you have to make room for new shows and if the show season tended to stack up on the DVR because it wasn't a priority, there is a strong chance it's gonna get cut. It sounds brutal, but that's life. haha

Tomorrow, I will post my schedule along with information on each show. So stay tuned...

For some reason this blog did not show up at first!! We love TV at the Waddington house, too! I saw your list, and the only show we watch on the list is Parentthood!

However, some of our shows (namely Breaking Bad and Dexter) are ending for good! :( we will be needing new stuff! These two plus Bar Rescue, Restaurant Impossible, Face Off, and our guilty pleasure, Catfish, will be over soon! Then we will just be looking forward to Shameless, Parenthood, and Sons of Anarchy! That will not fill our evenings all week!

There have been shows that we have tried to get into like The Americans, Ray Donovan, and Bates Motel. They still reside on our DVR list, so we may try and finish those! We really liked Orange is the New Black, but we quickly ran through the first season, which just ended. And, we aren't sure when Modern Family starts back up.

And when it comes to my personal guilty pleasure shows, Justin mostly watches, but only to throw in sarcastic remarks! I guess celebrity gossip and bridal shows aren't his thing?! ;) I can't help it, watching girls compete weddings for a free honeymoon is my jam!! It is also vital that I know who has been the worst dressed celeb this week!
